SAWIA 2022 Environmental Excellence award winners announced

Winners of the South Australian Wine Industry Association’s (SAWIA) 2022 Environmental Excellence Awards have been announced.
The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements and innovations of South Australian wine companies in environmental practice, and in 2022 there was a strong focus on leadership across the industry.
Three awards were presented at the ceremony: Large Winery, Small-Medium Winery, and Viticulture.
Green Industries SA sponsored the Small-Medium Winery category, awarded to Henschke for their future-proofing projects which include investing in renewable power generation and battery storage, coupled with real-time energy monitoring to move the business towards grid independence as part of their goal to achieve a 100% renewable energy supply.
The Large Winery category was won by Taylors Wines, and the Viticulture category was shared by Treasury Wine Estates and Hayes Family Wines.
The awards program aims to recognise and raise the profile of SAWIA members that demonstrate leadership in environmental management systems by adopting substantive and quantifiable improvements in areas of energy and carbon, land and biodiversity, water and waste.
