Disaster Waste Management Guidelines (2026)
The State Emergency Management Plan (SEMP) sets out the state's comprehensive emergency management arrangements.
The SEMP is a series of documents, split over 3 parts with accompanying annexes.
These Disaster Waste Management Guidelines sit under Part 2 of the SEMP.
The guidelines provide advice on best-practice disaster waste management during the response and recovery phases of an event in South Australia. The guidelines were developed based on past experience – both local and international – and in consultation with South Australian stakeholders.
The guidelines can also be used during the preparedness phase to support planning, training exercises, and identifying gaps, thereby strengthening the state's DWM capabilities.
