Circular Economy Resource Recovery Report (CERRR) 2023–24

Each year, Green Industries SA measures recovery and disposal activity in South Australia to assess how the state is performing on waste management and resource recovery. The findings are used to track progress against SA's waste targets. 

This report represents the results for the 2023–24 financial year.

SA's recovery rate in 2023–24 was an estimated 83.2%, which is slightly higher than recent years. SA recovered around 4.47 million tonnes of material in 2023–24, which is a 5% increase compared to 2022–23. Around 903 kt of waste was disposed to landfill in 2023–24, a decrease of 1% compared to 2022–23.

Overall, waste generation was approximately 5.38 million tonnes – a 4% increase from 2022–23.
