Circular Economy Resource Recovery Report (CERRR) 2021–22

The CERRR reports and summarises the quantities of resources diverted from waste in SA through re-use, recycling and energy recovery over the 2021–22 financial year. The data exclude net losses of these materials arising from resource recovery and/or re-processing activities and material recovered for operational uses. Material quantities and estimated value of the recovered resources to the SA economy are compared to the previous reported financial year (2020–21).

This data provides a comprehensive and reliable account of SA’s resource recovery. Combined with landfill disposal data collected by the South Australian Environment Protection Authority, it enables assessment of SA’s resource recovery performance, including diversion rate. This includes comparing SA’s performance with the State’s Waste Strategy targets as well as benchmarking this performance against other jurisdictions in Australia.

The 2021–22 report introduces material flow analysis (MFA) using a pilot for the plastics category. These MFAs provide quantitative assessments of the state, change of flows and stock of plastic types within SA in 2021–22.
