Trade Waste Initiative
What is trade waste?
Trade waste is any used water and liquids from commercial, industrial, business or manufacturing activities. It’s important for businesses to manage trade waste as it may contain materials that cause blockages or damage to the sewerage system and the environment.
Reducing trade waste
Green Industries SA work with some of South Australia’s most iconic brands to help them improve the way that they manage trade waste. Opportunities identified by Green Industries SA helped save businesses money on trade waste charges, while reduce the amount of water, energy and materials they use to manufacture their products. Over $200,000 has been provided to 25 businesses, allowing them to build business cases for investment in on-site opportunities. Over $1 million has been provided to drive the take-up of the identified opportunities, delivering cost savings and positive environmental outcomes for the South Australian Food and Beverage sector.
